垂獸 / CREATURE ON BRANCH RIDGE

又稱角獸，是中國古代建筑上垂脊上的獸件，是獸頭形狀，位于蹲獸之后，內有鐵釘，作用是防止垂脊上的瓦件下滑，加固屋脊相交位置的結合部。宋《營造法式》規定：官式建筑的垂脊端部用垂獸。

Creature on branch ridge is used at the low end of a ridge which came down from the top. t has a nail inside in case the tiles slide. According to "The way to build" of Song dynasty, creature on branch ridge should be used for the official building.

脊獸 / RIDGE BEAST DECORATION

走獸也稱為蹲獸，是宮殿建筑廡殿頂的垂脊上，歇山頂的戧脊上前端的瓦質或琉璃的脊獸。分仙人和走獸兩部分，其數量和宮殿的等級相關，最高為11個，每一個獸都有自己的名字和作用。

Decoration pieces made of tiles or glaze used on the diagonal ridge of hip roof in the palace buildings or the front end of diagonal ridge for gable and hip roof. It is divided into two parts as mythological immortals and animals, and the quantity is correlated with the grade of the palace. The maximum of pieces is 11. Each decoration piece has its own name and function.

龍

鳳

獬豸

我國古代傳說中的猛獸，與獅子同類?！懂愇镏尽分姓f“東北荒中有獸，名獬豸 ”。一角，性忠，見人斗則觸不直者，聞人論則咋不正者，它能辨曲直，又有神羊之稱它是勇猛，公正的象征。

斗牛

傳說中是一種虬螭，據《宸垣識略》載：“西內海子中有斗牛，即虬螭之類，遇陰雨作云霧，常蜿蜒道路旁及金鰲玉棟坊之上?！彼且环N除禍滅災的吉祥鎮物。

造型像只猴子，但背有雙翼，手持金剛杵有降魔功效，又因其形狀很像傳說中的雷公或雷震子，放在屋頂，是為了防雷。

勾頭 / EAVE TILES

勾頭也就是”瓦當“。瓦當是元代以前的稱呼，到了明清時期稱為”勾頭“。勾頭端部表面的紋樣內容非常豐富。

滴水 / DRIP TILE

滴水瓦，一種中式的瓦，可以保護墻壁的潔凈。一端帶著下垂的邊兒，底瓦于檐口處，其下端又下垂之圓尖形瓦片，蓋房頂時放在檐口，在燒制之前，會被繪上植物或者花卉的線條。
